In July 1969, COL Verne Greene, the Commander of 10th SFG(A) designed and commissioned Robbins Co, Attleboro, Massachusetts to mint a coin indicative of 10th SFG(A). He called on each Group member, past and present to carry the coin as a mark of membership. Additionally, these coins were presented to friends, relatives or visitors as cherished mementos. The front of the coin has the inscription "10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces around the Trojan Horse insignia, the original Special Forces crest worn by 10th SFG(A) in the 1950s. Below the horse is the words "Trojan Horse". The reverse side is inscribed with the Special Forces motto "De Oppresso Liber" and "The Best". A beret centered over a scroll is in the center. The scroll allows the person owning the coin to engrave their name, rank, speciality, date.

By the 1980s, many other units began minting coins in a wide variety of materials, colors and sizes.
